Prawn Masala



There are few dishes that hit the spot like a simple prawn masala. All spices and ingredients are easily found in an Indian kitchen. If you haven't tried this one before do give it a shot. A tasty side dish to complete any meal!

Prawn Masala
250 gms white prawns

Marinade
Ginger garlic paste
Salt to taste
Pinch of ground turmeric
Pinch of chilli powder

For the Masala
1 large onion chopped fine
3 cloves garlic minced
1 large tomato chopped fine
1 tbs grated coconut
1/2 tsp mustard seeds
1/4 tsp turmeric powder
1/4 tsp chilli powder
1/4 tsp coriander powder
Salt to taste

Preparation

  • De vein and shell the prawns, wash and clean.
  • Marinate the prawns with the marinade ingredients.
  • In an iron pan heat oil and splutter mustard seeds.
  • Add garlic and onion and sauté.
  • Add the spices and salt,mix well.
  • Throw in the chopped tomatoes and cook well. If the mixture is too dry add 1/4 cup water.
  • After the tomato is well cooked add the grated coconut and mix well.
  • Add the prawns into the mixture, cover and allow to cook.
  • Once the prawn is done turn off the heat and serve hot.
  • Enjoy!

  1. That looks superb! as my hus is allergic to shellfish my cooking prawns is quite restricted at home...but I still enjoy them when we eat out!
