6 Simple Guidelines to Happy Eating

A Very Happy Valentine's Day to all my readers.

There is no better way to express love to your loved ones than to cultivate the right eating habits and to inculcate the same in our kids. For "we grow in the image of those we love".
Today on the occassion of Valentine's Day when the world celebrates love, I have a very special guest- Kelly Parr from Fresh Encounter Body, Soul, Spirit.
Kelly was also guest last year for Valentine's day when she gave us A Burst of Cranberries. Visit her blog for an amazing collection of raw food recipes.
I am very honoured to have her at Enriching Your Kid!

6 Simple Guidelines to Happy Eating

These simple guidelines are what I try to follow each day but must continually remind myself of #6! This is not an exhaustive list, but sure is a great start...

1. Consume raw foods in their natural state (sometimes I steam, bake or lightly stir-fry using coconut oil...just depends on the mood I'm in and how cold it is outside!)

2. Think rainbow and eat all the colors! Yellow squash, orange papaya, red grapes, purple eggplants, blue blueberries and green string beans just to name a few!

3. Easy digest ...focus on eating foods that are "quick exit" foods. Foods that are high in water content such as fruits, salads, soups etc will go through your system quickly.

4. Get on cycle and eat accordingly. Whether you realize it or not your “body cycle” is going on at all times and can be more intense during certain hours of the day.

• Approximately 4am to noon: Elimination –body waste.

Eating foods such as whole fruits, green smoothies, and herbal teas during this time will allow your body to continue to eliminate with ease.

FYI: We do more appropriation than elimination so it will not hurt you to allow your body to do a bit more resting during these hours!

• Approximately noon to 8pm: Appropriation- eating & digestion.

Make lunch your main meal and your dinner a light one. It’s best not to eat after 8pm as this will allow your body easy transition into the next stage – assimilation.

• Approximately 8pm to 4am: Assimilation- absorption & use.

By not eating late will allow your body to absorb properly, rest comfortably and wake up not feeling groggy!

5. Eat to live not live to eat! Try using good common sense mixed with a little discipline and rejoice in the results!

6. GRACE! Always remember to serve yourself plenty of grace for each day. Give yourself lots of room to grow and if you (you will!) make a mistake... then just pick up from where you left off!
